A ten-storey ParkCity with approximately 1,000 parking spaces will open in Turku Science Park on Thursday, 19 Jan 2023. It will ease the parking situation in the area. Parking is free at ParkCity throughout January.
ParkCity, developed by Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt, has been completed on schedule as planned. ParkCity aims to streamline parking in Turku Science Park.
– The number of parking spaces has not matched the growth of the area. The area has become a hub for many jobs, sports arenas, and most recently, the Turku main railway station for a couple of years. The development of the area will also continue in the future. We want to do our part to make daily life easier for those who travel in Turku Science Park, says Miika Tuominen, Construction Manager at Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt.
The modern parking facility, built by YIT, is a striking landmark for both visitors and residents of Turku. It was designed by Schauman Arkkitehdit.
– We are very pleased with the building's bold design language and colour scheme. We want our buildings to have a soul and to spark opinions. Already, ParkCity's strong colours, from blue to yellow and grey, have generated discussion. It is also important to us that the building stands out from others. It is a parking facility after all, so it needs to be easily found, describes Tuominen.
A multi-service parking facility
ParkCity will open to the public on Thursday morning, 19 Jan 2023, at 6:00 a.m. Its parking operations are managed by Aimo Park, known for its versatile mobility services. Parking is free until the end of January.

– We want to offer people the chance to get to know ParkCity. In addition, we will be testing the equipment during the first few days. The facility will feature state-of-the-art camera-based parking, meaning no cards or tickets are needed. Everything can be handled with a single app, says Tero Hyökki, Aimo Park's Regional Manager for Turku.
Thanks to upcoming development projects, the Science Park is becoming the most important transport hub in Turku.
The new parking facility serves several customer groups. There is a covered walkway from the facility to the Kupittaa railway station, so ParkCity acts as a park-and-ride facility. People visiting and working in the area also benefit from the parking space and charging points.
– ParkCity brings together not only those in need of parking but also those looking for electric vehicle charging. The facility has a total of 20 EV charging points. Furthermore, there will be an electric shared car available at ParkCity in the future. It is an ecological form of mobility that has grown in popularity, especially in cities, Tero Hyökki describes.
In Turku Science Park, the opening of ParkCity will be reflected as an easing of the parking space shortage. The facility aims to respond not only to the current shortage but also to new needs.
– We have developed Turku's largest parking facility for good reason. Thanks to future development projects, the Science Park is becoming Turku's most important transport hub. ParkCity enables smooth parking now and in the years to come, Miika Tuominen summarizes.
