Three years, four office spaces and four employees – these figures summarize the journey of the law firm Tuomikoski Legal so far in Turku Science Park.
– I founded Tuomikoski Legal three years ago and rented a room in Werstas in ElectroCity. A year later, I hired the first employee, and a year after that, two more, says Samuli Tuomikoski.
Tuomikoski Legal is a law firm specializing in corporate disputes and business law, which Samuli Tuomikoski founded after working for a long time at another law firm. The company operated in three different premises in Werstas until it became time last November to rent an entire 80-square-meter office in DataCity.

– Werstas was an excellent solution for us as a startup, where we could increase the size of our premises according to our needs, and where the membership included everything from furniture to cleaning and meeting rooms. There, I also got to know other people, and we even gained some new clients from there.
A stylish office attracts people
It was clear to Samuli Tuomikoski that the new space should also be located in Turku Science Park, because this way, the company is present where other companies are.
– Not everyone knows that there are so many services available here and that the spaces grow according to your needs. Turku Science Park is a representative and functional area with a dynamic pulse, where you can meet new people at various events. It is also easy to visit our Helsinki office from here, as you can park your car and jump on a train at Kupittaa station.
In the new office, the previous user's solutions, such as desks, were largely utilized. No renovations were needed before moving in, as the office had been refurbished just under two years earlier with neutrally elegant colors.
– The space is just right for our needs, everything is representative and great. And it's also more pleasant to come to work when it's stylish. Legal matters is also an industry where the client expects to see a certain style, and the appearance of the office also tells something about us as a company.
The customer is not always right
At the core of Tuomikoski Legal's operations is the desire to help SMEs, which sometimes means saying unpleasant things out loud.
– We are always on the client's side, but we know what is possible and what is not. The client is not always right, and our job is to tell them how things are. It would be a lie to claim that every case can be won, but with our help, some things are less likely to be lost.
For the needs of SMEs, Tuomikoski Legal has developed an ongoing advisory service, where the client's assignment is constantly open, but billing only occurs when the client has questions.
– The ongoing advisory service lowers the threshold for checking a matter with a familiar lawyer before starting a dispute, which in turn becomes at least 10 times cheaper than help provided afterwards. The idea of the service is to prevent problems, for example, in questions related to contract terms.
The ongoing advisory service has brought Tuomikoski Legal many long-term customer relationships, and the new approach to legal services also offers clients a cost-effective alternative to hiring an in-house lawyer.
– The ongoing advisory service is a very good alternative to having your own lawyer, because as a team, we have wider expertise than one person can have. Also, costs only accumulate when the service is used.
If Samuli Tuomikoski had the chance to give one piece of advice to SMEs, what would it be?
– There are no wrong or stupid questions, except perhaps the ones that are never asked at all.
