Topping-out ceremony celebrated at GeneCity

Construction of GeneCity in Itäharju has proceeded according to plan, and the building's topping-out ceremony was celebrated on Wednesday, May 23rd.

The topping-out ceremony began with a speech by Miika Tuominen, who is responsible for the construction management of GeneCity at Teknologiakiinteistöt. He emphasized how great it is to be involved in realizing such a significant project for Turku and the Science Park. Next, Biovian's CEO Antti Nieminen brought his greetings, providing background on Biovian's over 20-year corporate story to the present day and thanking the project parties for their good cooperation. Finally, Janne Lundén from Rakennustoimisto Lundén delivered the contractor's greetings and thanked everyone for their trust in such a special building project. The employees, designers, and supervisors did not want to give speeches at this event. After the speeches, salmon soup with archipelago bread and strawberry cream cake were served.

It is great to be involved in realizing such a significant project for Turku and the Science Park.

GeneCity is a pharmaceutical factory that Teknologiakiinteistöt is building for the contract manufacturer of biological drugs, Biovian Oy.

The approximately 6,300-square-meter GeneCity is being built in Itäharju at Teollisuuskatu 42. The project consists of a single-story production facility, lobby and office spaces spread across three floors, and social, storage, and auxiliary facilities in the building's basement. The building will be completed at the end of 2024.

The architectural design for GeneCity was done by the architectural firm Sarc+Sigge. The building's cleanroom was designed by Elomatic Solutions Oy, which is also responsible for its implementation. The project contractor is Rakennustoimisto Lundén Oy. The building will be constructed in accordance with the LEED v4 Platinum level, which means that the property's environmental impact and energy consumption will be minimized throughout its entire life cycle.

After lunch, the topping-out ceremony guests were able to take a guided tour of the GeneCity construction site. DJ Pikkumiska provided the music and atmosphere for the event.
