Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt has acquired the Arken property located at Tehtaankatu 2 from the Stiftelsen för Åbo Akademi foundation. Arken consists of 13 buildings located in the block bordered by Piispankatu, Tehtaankatu, and Kasarmikatu in Turku Science Park. The total area of the building complex is over 15,000 square meters.
Arken is leased to Åbo Akademi for 20 years, and it houses the Faculty of Arts. The buildings include teaching facilities, offices, a library, and an underground parking garage with 59 spaces. The property is located on an owned plot of approximately 10,600 square meters. The purchase price of the property was approximately 43 million euros.
Arken has a long history, and the plot and its buildings were in industrial use during the 19th and 20th centuries. The buildings in the block were constructed between 1850 and 1930 and represent a valuable piece of Finnish industrial architectural history.
The Stiftelsen för Åbo Akademi foundation carried out extensive renovations on the buildings between 2001 and 2004, when all buildings on the site were converted into teaching and office spaces, and new buildings were also constructed on the plot. The original buildings in the complex are protected.
– Arken is a truly magnificent property. The complex has its own identity and tells a story of Turku's past and present. Åbo Akademi is an essential part of Turku and the development of science in Turku, and we are excited to become part of this continuum. From a property owner's perspective, it is also an excellent asset, as it is 100 percent leased and the user is a stable operator. These factors make Arken a perfect addition to our portfolio, says Mikko Lehtinen, CEO of Teknologiakiinteistöt.
