What is the best part about working in the lobby services at Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt, and what skills are useful in the role?
Two new people started in the lobby services at Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt at the end of last year when Anette Ahonen and Lauri Tiainen joined the company. Ahonen's workstation is located in BioCity, while Tiainen handles the lobby service at InfraCity.
– I heard about Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt for the first time when my mother saw an ad on Facebook saying that they were looking for service specialists for their lobby services. The position sounded interesting and the tasks versatile, so I sent my application immediately and I haven't regretted it for a day, Ahonen enthuses.
Lauri Tiainen, on the other hand, spotted the job posting while working abroad.
– The information about the open position came up while I was still in crisis management duties in Somalia and planning my next moves. I had actually accidentally remained on the Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt mailing list because I had previously participated in the opening of an art exhibition in the parking garage.
For Ahonen, Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt is her first permanent job, as she graduated as a business graduate (merkonomi) from Turku Vocational Institute in the spring of 2022. Tiainen, on the other hand, is finishing his history studies at the University of Turku alongside his work.
“I have always known that I want to work in customer service, and I enjoy being with customers.”
In the lobby services, the days are filled with advising and guiding people, answering emails and phone calls, and assisting colleagues. Experience gained from previous jobs has proven useful for both Ahonen and Tiainen.
– I have always known that I want to work in customer service, and I enjoy being with customers. During my studies, I worked in a café and learned a lot about interaction and understanding people, which is also useful in the BioCity lobby service. The best part of my job is my colleagues and the variety of working days. You never know what the day will bring, says Ahonen.
– People-oriented work is my area of strength. In the lobby services, I can focus on creating a meaningful atmosphere and smooth encounters. Days are often filled with surprising situations and encounters. That is why the job requires good stress tolerance as well as the readiness to work with different kinds of people. The critical information retrieval skills I gained from my history studies, as well as my experiences from the unstable and changing work environment of crisis management tasks, have given me good tools for resolving various situations, concludes Tiainen.
