In the autumn of 2024, Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt conducted a customer survey for people moving in the Science Park area to ask about their satisfaction with the area's services and their mobility in the area. Nearly 300 people responded to the survey, and one of the themes highlighted in the responses was arriving at the area.

According to the results, nearly half of the respondents arrive in the Science Park using light traffic: 28% by bicycle, 18% on foot, and 2% by electric scooter.

The majority of respondents were satisfied or fairly satisfied with the amount of bicycle parking in the area and felt that moving around the area was safe. However, development ideas also emerged in the survey; the responses particularly highlighted the need to place electric scooters in their own parking areas and the wish for more sheltered and covered parking spaces for bicycles.

Nearly half of the respondents arrive in the Science Park using light traffic.

Turun Teknologiakiinteistöt has long worked closely with the City of Turku to develop light traffic in the Science Park area. As a result of this cooperation, dedicated parking spaces for electric scooters will be added to the area during the summer and autumn. The planned locations are between BioCity and ElectroCity, in front of ParkCity, and at the corner of DataCity. In addition, the City of Turku is adding parking spaces along the sidewalks, including on Joukahaisenkatu. With the new parking areas, electric scooter parking in courtyards will be restricted in the future to improve safety and usability.

At the same time, bicycle parking is also being developed, and existing front-wheel-locking racks will be replaced with frame-locking racks. The placement of bicycle racks will also be improved so that they serve the busier areas of different properties better in the future.

We thank everyone who responded to the survey for their valuable feedback – this is how we develop the Science Park together!

Wishing you a sunny summer!
